A simple reference copy, and I think the key to this painting was its simplicity as I seemed to hold better control over the oil brush and palette knife and to achieve the right background colour.

I started with the much hailed custom canvas 2 brush in a thumbnail size which is currently my preferred technique to keep things simple at the start.
